First grade is exciting because children make the discovery, "We're reading !" All the sounds learned in Kindergarten come together in words. Our readers are designed to build a strong foundation for Reading. We also have a collection of high-interest books and stories that we read to the children. They respond by drawing their favorite parts of the story on paper or on the computer, connecting Reading and Writing.
The children learn about creation and all God's gifts to us. We do projects for Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter.
In Math, we learn addition and subtraction, and we do units on time, calendar, fractions and measurement.
Social Studies includes a study of holidays, maps, families and communities.
Science units on plants, animals, nutrition and the solar system are also included.
